When you drive from the famous Berlin Alexanderplatz via Landsberger
Allee
outwards the
city you will miss the world cups swimming pool, eventhough it is the biggest indoor
pool in Europe.
How is that ?
Well, most of the pool is underground and there are only a few meters you can see from the
street.
When on the left site the eye-catching Forum Landsberger Allee (with the
competitors hotel "Park
Plaza") appears you see about 4 meters of stands and behind this there it is:
the "Schwimm- und Sprunghalle im Europapark (SSE)" - or better the roof of
the pool.
By entering the pool you
will be really impressed – Olympic size and everything at it’s
best:
A 50 m (or 2 x 25 m) pool with 10 lanes and a 20 m diving pool with
futuristic diving facilities.
There are stands for 2500 spectators and with temporary stands around
4000 people can watch the events.
They see a lot of white
marble and all in artificial light, cause the small windows under the
ceiling allows only very few daylight in.
One floor below the training facilities are impressive as well. There
is a pool with 18 x 25 m lanes, a big gym, a dry diving facilities and
more rooms for training, physiotherapeutic and medical purposes.
